I’ve been without cable TV for fifteen years, and I’ve never really missed it. I’m a bookish type of girl, but about a year ago, I tested the waters of this thing called Netflix.
Suddenly I could binge watch all these shows people had been talking about. Shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The Tudors, Bones, Beauty and the Beast, The Vampire Diaries, The Originals, and…
OH MY GOD…SUPERNATURAL!
The world is seriously a better place because Dean Winchester was created by Erik Kripke. (Can you tell I’m a paranormal junkie?) The good news is, Netflix gets my butt on the treadmill because that’s mostly when I watch. 🙂
What I’ve found is that watching a lot of these shows has made me write BIGGER and BOLDER. It has expanded my imagination as much as reading, and that’s been a big surprise. I observe nuances of expression, subtle pauses in dialogue, and richness in setting. I’m finding I love TV as much as reading, and I felt guilty about that at first. But now, I realize it’s just another source of inspiration for my writing, and that’s a huge win in my book.
So, long live Netflix!
What shows do you watch and recommend? Any shows you think don’t live up to the hype?
Have you read Larissa Ione’s Demonic series, Misty? If you like paranormal with a side of hilarious and some serious passion you will love her books.
I’ve never read one of her books, Chris, can you believe that?! I’ve definitely heard of her, though, and with my love of all things paranormal, I will definitely add her to my To Read list. Thanks for the recommendation! 🙂
